Islip Local History

Our vision is to collect and preserve local history and genealogical information for the community of Islip Hamlet. We strive to make all of our historical information available and easily accessible through our Local History Room collection and digital services. The Library is actively seeking historical documents, photographs, videos, & other forms of historical media to add to our collection for preservation. If you have any historical materials of Islip Hamlet and are willing to contribute to our collection, please speak with a reference librarian. In most cases, your original documents can be returned to you.

Photographic Collections

The Islip Public Library is actively seeking historical photographs of Islip Hamlet to preserve a visual history of the community. If you can provide additional information about specific photographs, we encourage you to leave a comment on the photo page or speak with a reference librarian.

Paper Collectibles

The Library also seeks ephemera that relate to the Islip Hamlet to add to our archival collection. Ephemera are written or printed documents originally intended to be important or useful for a short period of time. Such items might include early letters written by local residents, tickets or programs from shows or movies, greeting cards, invitations, calendars from local businesses, receipts from local businesses, other printed giveaways from stores. A donation of Hamlet ephemera that we can add to our collection would be tax deductible.
